The Truth About Models
I got this from Crazeee
You know those photos you see on magazine covers and in the fashion, feature, beauty and advice
sections of teen mags? Well, they're all fake and take as many as 10 people to make them look good.
The truth will snap you back into reality - and it will open your eyes too.
Here's the low-down on what you see in those glossy spreads and what's really going on:
- That outfit fits her so perfectly - why does it look so bad on me?
There's a reason why you can't get your clothes to look half as good on you as they do on
the models in magazines. It is pretty common for models to be dressed in awkward-fitting
clothing and shoes too big for their tiny feet. This was remedied by taping their boobs up
and in, and pulling the clothes tight and snug to the body by pinning, tucking and taping
where the camera can't see. And if the shoes are clearly too big, no problem! Nothing a computer
couldn't fix. Art directors sit at their computers with the photo image on the screen,
"fixing" a thigh or slicing off the leftover part of the shoe that shot out way beyond the
model's foot.
- Why can't I get my hair to do that?
Three words: professional hair stylist. And in many cases, a celebrity hair stylist.
Sometimes it'd take them hours to do the hair on one model and then the mag would describe how
to do it in "four easy steps." And, yes, many of those hairstyles don't look good after an hour
or withstand walking with that little bounce in your step.
- Her skin's so flawless
Your skin would look flawless too if you had two people painting your face
with the best makeup, and were then photographed in special lighting by a
talented photographer. Don't forget the talented art director who would choose the
best photo out of hundreds of shots and later smooth out any wrinkles and fix other
"flaws" using a computer. All it takes are a few clicks of the mouse to make the model's
skin as smooth and poreless as a baby's butt.
- She's so skinny
It's true: Most of the models magazines choose are indeed tooth-pick thin.
But that doesn't mean they barf up their food, or don't eat at all.
Many people are naturally thin and know what it feels like to be wrongly
accused of having an eating disorder. What is wrong, however, is that the
people choosing the models often choose only skinny ones. However, a
lot of them are not tooth-picks. It's amazing how computers and pro photographers
can take off at least 10 pounds in no time.
So whatever you do, don't compare yourself to the girls and women you see in magazines.
They don't own those clothes (and could never afford them on average model's pay).
Their skin is not perfect. Their bodies aren't flawless. They didn't do their own make-up
and hair. And their lives are not perfect.
Added Submissions:
To keep skinny, they eat tissue paper, so when they eat, they feel more full up - therefore not putting on any weight - this is similar with anorexia sufferers. With anorexia, when they are forced to go to a special centre, when it comes to the 'weigh in', they drink 5 litres(or something like that) to bring them up to their target weight, then...they uh, pee it all out :P
