Nails

Good nail care is important, especially finger nails which are on show all the time. Unfortuantely this page is kinda hypocritical of me since I don't look after my nails much any more. But I found some tips, and put them together with my own ideas :)

Basics
  • Cut or file your nails regularly to keep them straight.
  • Clean the dirt from under your nails regularly!
  • Use good clear varnish before and after you apply colour, because then it adds a nice shiny overcoat and comes off easily when you want to remove it.
  • Don't bite your nails: if you're trying to stop, pick a 'favourite' nail, and bite only that one. 1 bitten nail is better than 10!
  • Clear nail varnish usually goes unnoticed in school.
  • Don't grow your nails too long because they will break and chip easily, and are too long for typing!!!
  • Lots of calcium (found in dairy products) strengths your nails and helps them to grow.
  • Give yourself a manicure or get a friend to do it by following the steps below. It will last much longer and cost next to nothing too!

Simple manicure and varnishing instructions
1. Buy/find some clear nail polish, warm water, hand cream (optional), a colour of nail varnish you like and an emery board/nail file.
2. First of all file your nails so they are even but not too short.
3. Then put your hands in warm water for a few minutes to clean and cleanse your fingers and nails.
4. Then rub hand cream well into your hands *optional*
5. Gently push back your cuticles (cotton buds might be a good idea...)
6. Apply a coat of transparent nail varnish and leave to dry.
7. When dry, add a coat of the colour you want to use to your nails, and leave till dry.
8. Add a final coat of clear, and you're all done :D

Don't forget you can buy tattoos, stickers and jewels for your nails too! And mini painting sets for applying designs. They look pretty cool.
