• Check with your parents first that it's okay - don't do what I do lol.
  
• If it's a big party and people are planning on drinking, it's best to keep it to rooms that don't have carpets, or cover the floor.
  
• Cover any soafs, chairs with sheets.
  
• Wrap up ornaments and anything made of glass.
  
• Use coloured lights, or twinkling christmas lights to add atmosphere lol.
  
• Buy a disco ball, use it for your party then take it back to the shop the next day and get your money back! ;)
  
• Get plenty of soft drinks.
  
• Tell people what to bring e.g. drinks, whatever. Ask people to bring crisps or something if you don't have that much money to spend.
  
• Only invite people you know really well. This might sound obvious...but still.
  
• Make sure you have stuff for cleaning up afterwards!
  
• Ask people to bring their own music if you like, but try not to get CDs mixed up :S
  
• Put all the stuff people leave together afterwards. It sounds dumb, but after my last party I picked up a camera, a photo frame/mirror, several CDs & other junk :)
  
• Keep it relaxed and possibly suggest spin the bottle when it starts getting late and there aren't that many people left.
