Customising Greymatter

Once you've installed Greymatter, the next step is to edit it to match the rest of your site. However, this can be pretty difficult at first if you aren't sure what you're doing!!

1. Once logged into GM, go into 'Edit Templates'. Make sure you have your site's CSS code handy to copy and paste, or if you use external sytle sheets, make sure you have the code for that ready (it should be something like <LINK REL=stylesheet HREF="http://your-site.com/style.css" TYPE="text/css"> without the star and with your site URL). Note: your CSS code should also contain the code for your background image.
2. Go into Main Index-Related Templates, and insert your CSS code towards the top of the first box, under where the HEAD tag is (if it doesn't say that, type the page tags in under the first line of code.
3. Scroll down the page until you get to a box that says 'Index Entry Template: Standard Entries'. You might want to add your CSS code to the top of this box, just to be on the safe side.
4. Ok after that, 'Save Template Changes', then go back to the Templates Menu.
5. Go into 'Edit Archive-Related Templates', and add your CSS code to the top two big boxes. then save, and go back to the templates menu again.
6. Once in 'Edit Karma & Comments-Related Templates', add your CSS code to the first four boxes. You may also need to add it to 'Preview Divider Template' and 'Confirmation Form Template'.
7. Now go to the address where you view your Greymatter (it might be something like http://your-site.com/cgi-bin/gm/?) and it should hopefully match the rest of your site!! If you use external style sheets, you won't need to edit your CSS in GM ever again, if you used normal CSS, you'll need to change the templates again whenever your site layout changes :)
