Tutorial Set > Making a Website. STEP 5: Uploading and Using Images

16. So now you want to brighten up your page using a few images. Firstly, go to the 'Site Manager' and click 'Upload a File'. Now click the 'Browse' button and find the image you want to upload. This will usually be a file ending in .bmp, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg or .png. Dont' worry if you're not sure about this, as long as you know the file is an image. Double click it, or click 'Open' to have the picture path displayed. In the drop down menu above, choose which folder you want the picture to go in. As mine's a baby picture, I want it to go in the 'Me' section. Then press 'Submit' and your file will be uploaded.

17. Now back in the 'Site Manager', click the directory/folder you put the image in (mine's 'Me'), and the file name should appear. If you like you can preview your picture by clicking the actual image link. If for any reason you want to delete the image, just click the red 'X' next to its link and it will be deleted.

18. You need to add the photo to your page, so click the 'Edit' icon next to the page in which you want to add the image to, or create a new page and then open that if you like. I'm editing my 'biography.html' page.
19. Look for where you want to add your picture; it can be anywhere in the BODY part of your page. I want mine to go under my actual text, then add the following code:

20. You will need to edit yours according to your site and image name. Firstly, where my code says stargirlorg, you need to change that to the username you signed up with when you created your freewebs account. The /Me/ means that the image is in the 'Me' folder. The jenbaby.gif is the actual filename, which you will know because it shows up in your directory (see the image for step 11). This is what my coding looks like:

21. Once you've altered the code so that it fits your image, go to File > Save. Once you get the message to tell you that the file has been saved, close the window and go back to the 'Site Manager'.
22. Now click the link to the page you just added the photo to (mine's 'biography.html') and check that your image shows up. If it doesn't, you probably didn't type the filepath correctly (see step 20), or you didn't upload the image. This is mine:
