Get Accepted

Sometimes it can be quite difficult to get accepted into cliques, rings, directories etc. If you follow my tips, it should make things a bit easier for you!

  • Always read the rules of the clique. This may sound obvious, but they are there for a reason. Check your site meets the requirements and check for any extra words or phrases the owner wants you to put in the submission form to check you read the rules. Sometimes site owners will try to fool you by saying 'Type cheese into the What do I like? box to prove you read the rules. Then a couple of rules down they say, 'Instead of putting cheese in the box below, type chocolate!' Don't get caught out by this.

  • Be polite. Leave a nice message if there is an Anything else? field on the form.

  • Be prepared for rejection. Every site has been rejected for a clique/webring/listing at some point, don't worry about it! Just try and improve your site and submit again. If your site is rejected, it may well be a good idea to e-mail the owner and ask for some constructive criticism. Be careful with this; remember it can depend a lot on opinion, and a popular site owner's opinion isn't necessarily gospel truth :P On the other hand, don't ignore the advice or get insulted by it. Just decide what you're going to change and how you're going to improve your site.

  • Make sure the code or image you put on your site is clear, linked properly and obvious to anyone looking for it. The best place to put it is clearly on your splash page, or have an obvious link on your index page. Most sites don't want you to direct link, so check to see whether this is allowed or not. Personally, I would save all images to my server anyway, because if the site you're linking from is down or closed, at least you don't have red crosses everywhere. It will also speed up the loading time of your page.

  • You might want to put a text link until you get accepted into the clique or listing, to save you uploading images and then having to take them down again if your site isn't accepted.

  • When viewing the clique, ring or whatever, make sure the site has been updated recently. If it hasn't been updated for more than a month, don't bother submitting.

  • If submissions are closed on the site, bookmark it and come back later.
