Dos and Don'ts

• Don't beg your visitors to sign your guestbook or comment. It gets old fast.
  
  
• Don't use graphics or layouts that look all blurred or have pixel-y edges.
  
  
• Don't have your whole site on just one page.
  
  
• Don't overload pages. An ideal subpage will have the layout of your site on it and text in a matching colour and nice font. Adding tons of scripts, flashing backgrounds and stuff about you, your site, and visitor content all on one page is confusing and messy.
  
  
• Don't use pagebuilders like geocities.com if you can help it.
  
  
• Don't annoy other people asking them to help you with your site.
  
  
• Don't use annoying Javascript pop up buttons continually on your site or automatic pop up boxes.
  
  
• Don't be afraid of using layouts from other sites if you can't make them yourself.
  
  
• Don't use too much bad language unless you have a private blog or something...most people don't like it.
  
  
• Don't give up...you will get there in the end!
  
  
• Do be patient - good sites don't magically appear overnight.
  
  
• Do download/buy a good graphics program like Jasc Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop to use.
  
  
• Do keep practising making graphics/layouts and trying out new tutorials.
  
  
• Do use colours that are web-safe and look practically the same on most people's computers.
  
  
• Do try and prevent pop ups on your site as much as possible.
  
  
• Do have a lot of original content for your visitors.
  
  
• Do sign guestbooks if people sign yours (I'm guilty of not doing this though lol).
  
  
• Do plug people who comment on your site.
  
  
• Do give your visitors as many options as possible - from opening pages in new windows to choosing the links.
  
  
• Do make your site easy to navigate.
  
  
• Do use an original and striking name for your site.
  
  
• Do blog/update on a regular basis.
