General Site Ideas

Stuck for ideas for your site? Here is a general selection.

Have a section about you
You can give lots of info about yourself in a profile or biography, depending on how much you want to write. Pictures and photos of you, your pets or the things you like can help to break the text up or add a visual touch to a plain section. Have a page for people to contact you, a page about your friends, a blog (or a mini diary), and of course cute little adoptions and toybox animals!

Have a section for the visitor
Include, games, jokes, stories and go to bored.com and have a look around. Some games and sites on there are really fun, and you could link them to yours. You could also draw adoptions for people to take, and make freebie graphics or layouts. You could write information pages, guides, site tips etc.

Have a section about your site
How long has your site been up for? Why did you decide to make your site? Why did you choose to name your site that? What are your favourite links? Do you have any sister sites, affiliates or link exchanges? (It's probably a good idea to link those on your splash page too). Is there any other information about your site you want to share?

The rest is up to you, be creative and original, and you can't go wrong! You might also like to surf the web looking at other sites to get a good idea of what you want. You may like to have specialised sections depending on the exact nature of your site. Something you specialise in, or can provide lots of information about, such as another hobby or a favourite TV series.

General tips
  • Use colours that match well and are easy to read.
  • Don't use a very intricate background or a flashing one because that makes pages a lot harder to read.
  • Keep it all simple. The best sites work because they are simple and well constructed.
  • Update often, or change things regularly so people keep coming back.
  • Make your site interesting and try not to be too bossy!
  • Add guestbooks, polls, chat rooms etc. to make your site interactive.
  • Don't write like ThYs or THIS all the time, it doesn't look nice :(
